Shore and Storm Mediation

A storm brews against a shoreline without a bay. Limestone islands bob as blimps on a horizon. Points beckon. These are the days when the earth seems to move with the wind; in Borneo the rainy season has begun. Wave after wave pounds logs, sediment, pieces of islands, bits of land from our home. It sweeps into bare feet and leaves a salt residue, reminding us that this element of earth keeps us alive. To steady the curving horizon, all you need to do is breath in, breath out. Wind buffets back at us, in a kind of tandem meditation with the earth. The rainy season marks change, helps regulate climate, precedes the feasts of the fruiting season during this period where dolphins mate, and forest planting and harvesting cycles shift. I made this image strong, alone, and resolute. I thought, it’s going to be a good year. Change is possible. The visions we see and create are on the horizon.  To see requires breath, weathering storms and growing stronger. We can be our own bays.
