Garden Aprentice - Medicinal Garden, Costa Rica
Garden Aprentice - Medicinal Garden, Costa Rica
I spent time in an indigenous Bribri community along the Southern Costa Rican border. Each day, the elementary school class where I volunteered would spend an hour and a half working each day in the community garden. We’d clear brush, move rocks, weed, cultivate and collect seeds. In addition to being a central vegetable garden, this garden also served another purpose—it was the local medicinal garden. These kids used this resource as a knowledge learning center and medicine chest. This image, of the boy with the homemade hoe, was taken during one of the in between moments in the garden—a moment between play, work, and learning. Sizes: 8x10, 11x14, 12x18
