Upland Ginger Harvest, Philippines
Upland Ginger Harvest, Philippines
A fourth generation upland farmer harvests ginger in a 8 acre forest plot. This forest area is cooperative maintained by a group of three families. Old coffee and fruit trees mix with the edge of the primary rainforest. Here’s what’s interesting: in the 1990s the coffee market, which was formerly the primarily livelihood crashed. Most families in the area moved to urban centers. This family tried planted ginger in their forest plot. Today, they are leaders in a successful, community-based ginger cooperative. This image was made during one of the weekly harvests. This particular image is more detailed than it looks on screen. See image detail. Sizes: 8x10, 11x14, 12x18, 24x17
