Reaching for the Sky
We are high up in the limestone cliffs, using ropes made of rattan and rice sacks. The men I'm working with are all strong and observant. Most people who gather swiftlet nests are young, sell to middle men, and receive little profit. This situation is a bit different, we are inside a national park. The government is trying an experiment, letting community members harvest resources and listening to some of their knowledge, and helping maintain their livelihood by regulating the harvesting with local communities.
