A Congolese man sang after hours well into the night at this year's Rainforest Music Festival, with haunting and beautiful chants about forests and life over campfire smoke. Tree branches moved in the moonlight. I lay down. I closed and opened my eyes trying to be present on the beach. The forest drifted in and out of focus. A soft rain began to fall. I thought of my waiting dry tent; my temporary forest home.
