Working Forest Rhythm, Making Sego Flour
Working Forest Rhythm, Making Sego Flour
In a forest camp, sego palm is processed into a starch that forms the staple diet for nomadic Penan. The man on the right chips the inside of the sego palm tree into strips. The woman in the center, squeezes sego soaking in river water into a water that will be boiled into a glutonous starch. The woman on the left strains the wet, yellow sego by using her feet. Later, after lunch, we will begin the drying process to make flour. Sizes: 8x10, 11x14, 12x18, 17x24
