Philippine Tarsier

The tarsier is one of the smallest primates in the world. Found only in lowland rainforest habitat, pressures of hunting and habitat destruction are intense. One community group of the island of Bohol has formed a conservation group to promote habitat conservation and ecotourism.  This image was made late one afternoon; normally Tarsiers are noctural.  This tarsier peaking around a tree points to some success of the community’s efforts to conserve these creatures.  A portion of the proceeds of this image goes to The Tarsier Foundation, established to promote the conservation of these animals and their lowland rainforest habitat.
